Open-source databases are rocking the world of transaction systems. But what about data warehousing? Following the "database appliance" path of Netezza and the more established footprints of NCR's Teradata division, Greenplum has introduced DeepGreen. Open-source PostgreSQL is its database engine. Formerly known as Metapa, the company boasts an executive roster with experienced hands from Ab Initio, Didera, Oracle, Marketsoft and Teradata.
