Short List: Project Planning Software; Data App Security

The latest upgrade of this strategic and project-planning software, released in June, adds features for automated investment optimization. The PlanView Enterprise Investment Optimization Engine uses predictive modeling and scenario-planning techniques to automate the process of evaluating portfolio-optimization strategies. The analytics help business and IT executives make better-informed investment portfolio decisions reflecting both financial cost and resource capacity data. The latest release also offers enhancements such as updated capacity planning and advanced strategic planning capabilities, extended globalization support, a streamlined interface and more robust reporting. www.planview.com

Protegrity Defiance Suite 4.1
This data and application security package is designed to protect enterprise information from acquisition to deletion. As part of the upgrade, Defiance XC software for encryption and control was added to Protegrity's DPS (Data Protection System). DPS centrally controls the enforcement, auditing and reporting functions of Defiance XC. The vendor's TMS (Threat Management System) Web application gained a Brute Force Security Filter that prevents automated, trial-and-error hacking techniques. Also new are LDAP Injection Security that protects database directory services and an Operations Dashboard that provides at-a-glance views of security control. www.protegrity.com

Reactivity XML Appliances
Reactivity has unveiled three appliances for configuring a network for multiple types of XML data, reflecting a growing demand for hardware to solve bottlenecks in distributed computing systems based on service-oriented architecture (SOA). The product family includes the XML Security Gateway, the Secure XML Router and the XML Accelerator. The appliances automate the process of configuring a network that carries XML data from different sources, securing, optimizing and managing all such traffic. www.reactivity.com/

Managed Objects CMDB360
To help companies provide a complete, accurate and up-to-date view of all IT assets, Managed Objects has taken a federated approach. Instead of copying IT asset data from various places--such as from BMC Control, CA Unicenter, HP OpenView and helpdesk software--CMDB360 links to all those sources and provides a layer of reports and business intelligence on top. Managed Objects says the system can help companies start using ITIL best practices for change and configuration management. www.managedobjects.com

TeaLeaf CX Solutions
A small problem on a Web site can mean lots of lost business. TeaLeaf's technology records Web sessions in a searchable fashion so you can replay them and investigate problems. The cxImpact module, part of TeaLeaf's most recent upgrade, provides tools to analyze clickstream data for identifying trends and problems. cxConnect reformats Web site data into Web logs, XML or a relational database so it can be interpreted by a business intelligence or Web analytics tool. cxReveal gives service reps access to live and archived sessions to aid customer support. cxVerify stores completed transactions to help resolve service inquiries and disputes. www.tealeaf.com/
