Web analytics software vendor WebSideStory has acquired Visual Sciences, a privately held developer of streaming data analysis and visualization software and on-demand services, for $57.3 million in cash and stock.

Visual Sciences will be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of WebSideStory and its products will be integrated with WebSideStory's Active Marketing Suite software. Visual Sciences' flagship Visual Site Web analytics software provides dynamic data segmentation and real-time data visualization capabilities.

WebSideStory completed the acquisition on Wednesday, the same day it reported revenue of $11.7 million for its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, up 79% from the same period last year. Net income for the quarter was slightly more than $5 million.

One year ago WebSideStory acquired Avivo Corp. and its Atomz Web-site search and Web-content-management applications in a deal valued at about $40 million.
