Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has enhanced its well-known Retail Link supply-chain system by adding an authoring and security tool from Computer Associates.
CA's Opal provides Web access to Wal-Mart's Replenishment Systems, a traditional mainframe application, via a standard common user interface for at least 200 of the retail chain's suppliers. Wal-Mart can now let its vendors access information and make transactions over the Internet more securely by using Opal's servers instead of an open dial-up connection.
Retail Link is Wal-Mart's collaboration tool that lets vendors link directly to its data warehouse for writing accurate forecasts, recording product sales histories, streamlining distribution, and monitoring demand cycles.
