Videoconferencing provider Vidyo said it is utilizing the cloud in its latest product, a suite of broadcast offerings and services for TV networks and stations. Announced Friday at the IBC show in Amsterdam, VidyoCast offers software and hardware to achieve SD/HD quality video transport.

The company's relatively inexpensive videoconferencing systems have gained market acceptance building on the H.264 SVC standard, which enables users to utilize the Internet for transmissions. With VidyoCast, the company targets remote contribution, ENG, sports production, net return, Master Control back up and disaster recovery. The company maintains its cloud-based approach can deliver savings equal to one-tenth the cost of satellite transmission.

"The VidyoCast suite allows broadcasters to accomplish easily and inexpensively what until now has been difficult and costly," said Jim O'Brien, VidyoCast general manager, in a statement. "Now news and sports organizations, as well as game show and reality TV producers, can easily manage and control tens or even hundreds of contribution feeds from all over the world at the same time."

Vidyo noted that its modular product suite delivers videoconferencing inexpensively by eliminating costly satellite feeds and by enabling users to avoid high upfront capital investment. Utilizing encoders and decoders based on H.264 SVC (Scalable Video Coding), the VidyoCast can deliver seamless integration with feeds desk/media operations. VidyoEncoder/Decoder provides network-aware adaptive optimization to squeeze video quality through IP connections.

Also included in the system is VidyoMCR, which is cloud-based Master Control Backup and Zone Control.

The company said VidyoCast is available immediately.
