Verity Inc. will release portal development and navigation software today that promises to cut the costs of manually classifying information dispersed throughout business networks.
Knowledge Organizer, an add-on to the Verity Information Server, creates an index of information stored on Web servers, databases, and elsewhere throughout enterprise networks.
Once indexed and categorized, Knowledge Organizer lets end users browse information by product, project, author, and many other categories. "We are providing a Yahoo-like searching metaphor for the corporate network," said Laura Ramos, director of corporate marketing at Verity.
Tools such as Information Server have the potential to reduce the costs of organizing information stored throughout business networks, industry analysts say. A company can spend as much as $960,000 classifying 15,000 to 20,000 documents on its intranet, according to Forrester Research Inc.
