Treo Leads PalmOne To Higher Revenue, Profits

A 250% increase in Treo smartphone sales, compared to the year-ago period, led to a surge in both revenues in profits in the most recent quarter, palmOne says.

Mobile device vendor palmOne Thursday reported that its revenues and net income increased significantly in its just-ended fiscal quarter, paced by surging sales of its Treo smartphone.

The company reported revenues of $335.8 million, a 26 percent increase compared to the same quarter a year ago and an 18 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. It reported net income of $17.7 million, compared to $13.3 million for the year-ago quarter and $4.4 million for the previous quarter.

The company reported total revenue of $1.27 billion for its fiscal year, which ended June 3, an increase of 34 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. PalmOne CEO Ed Colligan gave a lot of the credit to sales of the company's Treo smartphone.

"Our carrier and channel partners reported very strong sell-through on Treo smartphones for the quarter -- a 250 percent increase over the comparable quarter last year and 57 percent more than in the third quarter of fiscal year 2005," Colligan said in a statement.

Specifically, the company said it sold 442,000 Treos in the last quarter compared to 126,000 in the year-ago quarter and 282,000 in the previous quarter.
