Sybase Acquires Mobile Middleware Vendor

The purchase of Extended Systems gives Sybase around 2,500 enterprise customers and an expanded focus on connecting mobile applications like sales force to back-end systems.

Sybase said Friday that it is acquiring mobile middleware vendor Extended Systems.

Sybase and its iAnywhere subsidiary have focused on software and services for enterprise mobilization of key data and management of mobile devices. Extended Systems' OneBridge middleware enabled mobilization of enterprise applications such as field service and sales force automation and customer relationship management. Sybase said that Extended Systems has about 2500 enterprise customers.

Sybase said in a statement that the cash acquisition is valued at about $71.3 million and that it expects to close the deal before the end of the year. Sybase said it will integrate Extended Systems into the iAnywhere division.
