Austin may not be as well-known as a location for IT jobs as some of the other cities in this slideshow, but technology jobs make up a huge portion of its workforce. It's also home to the annual South by Southwest conference, which brings together many of the biggest names in the technology industry. Although home prices have been rising rapidly, Austin has a fairly low cost of living. Plus, it has a delightfully offbeat culture that makes it one of the most unique places in the country. Major tech employers in the area include Dell, IBM, Apple, Oracle, VMware and many others.

Nice to see Seattle still on this list. Being and working in Vancouver, BC, tech jobs are often gone quickly and with Seattle being so close, it provides some possibilities for those stuck unemployed.
