Given that FB continually fixes what is *not* broken, and, in the process, divulges publicly what was previously set to private with each update, this is a nice refresher how to control who sees what with regard to email and settings.  We can only hope the next update to FB won't peel back yet another layer of privacy controls in an effort to pump up its bottom line by exploiting the site's users.

Good riddance. Facebook's attempt to take over communication was almost as unwelcome as Google+.

Re: finally
Agreed. If there's one thing Facebook is good at, it's knowing when to call it quits with a feature or product.

Re: finally
After spending $19B to grab WhatsApp -- and given the general assumption no one under 30 uses email anymore -- it makes sense that FB would focus on group texting and abandon email.

Re: finally
The irony is that those under 30 are leaving Facebook at an ever increasing rate. In a gross generalization, not too many teens want to be transparent on the same social network where their grandparents are hanging out catching up. Of course, grandma probably doesn't use email either.

Re: finally
I think you're point is somehow reflected in the price Facebook paid for WhatsApp. Facebook needs to stay in front of hundreds of millions people daily, even if its not on Facebook itself.

Re: finally
Exactly, Wyatt. Facebook knows that teens are a very important demographic, and it knows that they're leaving Facebook. WhatsApp -- which is popular among teens -- was a strategic acquisition for this reason.

Re: finally
WhatsApp is also popular for a lot of folks I know who have friends and family scattered all over the place -- and thw world -- who want to keep up on group texts.  I use a competing service, but clearly WhatsApp is the place to be.

Re: finally
No doubt that WhatsApp is a great service. My family uses it for group text and international texts. If teens are using it, then it probably is a smart move for Facebook.
