TSO Selects XyEnterprise's XPP to Automate Publishing Workflow

By using Web Services, TSO will be able to proof, modify and publish documents via a Web browser from virtually any location.

TSO (The Stationery Office), the largest publisher in the UK by volume, has adopted XyEnterprise's XML Professional Publisher (XPP) to power its typesetting and composition services. "We are using XPP in the composition of a new loose-leaf product, and expect to fully replace our existing Miles33 system in time with XPP," says Terry Blake, ePublishing Director at TSO.

The solution that TSO has purchased leverages XyEnterprise's XPP for automated production of both bound volumes and automatic loose-leaf updates. XPP directly composes the XML data to print or PDF output, dynamically formatting text and tables. The XPP system controls composition at a page, block or line level. It includes extensive footnote capabilities, sophisticated placement of graphics, and the creation of tables of contents and indexes. Its loose-leaf component detects changed pages and creates a loose-leaf package with the minimum number of pages, thereby reducing printing costs. XPP's Web Services SDK (Software Developer's Kit) is built on standard Web Services technologies. By using Web Services, TSO will be able to proof, modify and publish documents via a Web browser from virtually any location, realizing reduced turn-around times and enhanced production quality.

"XyEnterprise's Automatic Loose-leaf solution has enabled us to win new business," says Keith Burbage, TSO General Manager. "The Web Services Solution will enable us to provide our staff and clients with fast and cost-effective proofing and enhance the service offering of TSO."

Wez Dowell, Director of UK Sales at XyEnterprise says, "We are very pleased that XPP's Loose-leaf capability has given TSO a new publishing solution. TSO's decision to also adopt XPP Web Services reflects their forward thinking, and confirms XyEnterprise's continuing commitment to offer the publishing world new and innovative solutions."
