Business intelligence software maker Business Objects and open-source database firm MySQL plan to jointly sell the MySQL Network database subscription service with BI tools from Business Objects.
The new OEM referral pact expands on a partnership between the companies that was announced last April. As part of that agreement, the firms embedded MySQL database technology into BusinessObjects XI for use on Linux and Unix operating systems. What's new now is that Business Objects and MySQL have created several bundled tools for reporting and data integration for the MySQL database through MySQL Network, a set of database software and support services.
The new bundles include Business Objects' Crystal Reports for reporting and BusinessObjects Data Integrator.
"There is tremendous momentum in open-source software right now, and open-source databases and operating systems will play an expanded role in business intelligence deployments going forward," said Business Objects VP of field sales, global alliances and data integration Steve Lucas, in a prepared statement.
