Boomi Offers SMBs Hosted Integration For SaaS Apps

Boomi On-Demand enables small and medium-sized businesses to connect back-office applications with software available as a service on the Web.

Boomi plans to launch in beta at the end of the month an online integration service that enables small and medium-sized businesses to connect back-office applications with software available as a service on the Web.

Boomi On Demand is being marketed as an affordable integration option for companies that subscribe to, NetSuite, Navis and other on-demand software vendors renting a variety of business applications over the Web.

Integration tools for tying software-as-a-service offerings to back-office applications from Intuit, Sage Software, Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle are lacking in functionality and price, according to Bob Moul, president and chief executive of Boomi. "Integration has really become the Achilles heel of the SaaS industry."

Boomi has partnered with SaaS vendors in building connectors to its online integration service. As part of its subscription fee, Boomi will provide or build the connector for a company's behind-the-firewall enterprise resource planning system or other business software. "We don't charge (extra) for that," Rick Nucci, chief technology officer for Boomi, said.

Once connectors are in place, the subscriber would go to the Boomi site and set up the process, such as moving work orders or invoices; and the workflow. Once the processing logic and decision handling is defined, they're deployed via a lightweight, runtime engine that Boomi calls an "Atom," which also contains all the other components required to execute an integration process, including connectors, and transformation rules.

The executable is self-contained and autonomous, and can be run on any server. It can be hosted for SaaS to SaaS integration, or downloaded behind a company firewall for SaaS to on-premise integration. Boomi provides a dashboard for subscribers to monitor the status and health of Atoms and integration processes.

Pricing for the service starts at $195 a month per application, plus $95 a month per trading partner.
