Quickoffice Supports Office 2007 Files On Symbian Smartphones
Quickoffice Premier 5.0 is the first mobile productivity software suite to support Office 2007 file formats on the S60 platform, the company says.
Quickoffice, a provider of mobile productivity software and services, on Tuesday rolled out an application for viewing and editing Microsoft Office 2007 files on devices that run the Symbian S60 software platform.
The company claims that its Quickoffice Premier 5.0 is the first mobile productivity software suite to support Office 2007 file formats on the S60 platform, which is among the leading smartphone platforms on the market.
With Quickoffice, users can open, view, edit, and create Word and Excel 2007 documents in the Extensible Markup Language, or XML, format on their S60 devices. Devices that use the S60 platform come from various manufacturers, such as Nokia, LG Electronics, Samsung, Siemens, Panasonic, and Lenovo.
Some additional enhancements to the latest version of Quickoffice include printer support, more shortcut keys, tighter integration with Adobe Reader, marquee scrolling of long file names, and an improved user interface, according to Quickoffice. It also now supports Nokia Mail for Microsoft Exchange 2.0, which allows users to open, view, and edit e-mail attachments directly in the application.
Another important feature that users get with Quickoffice Premier 5.0 is Quickmanager 1.5, which allows software updates to be sent to S60 devices wirelessly.
Version 5.0 is available immediately online and is priced at $69.95. Current Quickoffice users can purchase the upgrade wirelessly on their devices via Quickmanager and receive discounts.
Quickoffice isn't the only provider to offer access to Microsoft Office files on devices that don't run the Windows Mobile OS. Last month, online media management and collaboration provider Transmedia launched an application for creating Word documents, Web sites, and PDFs on Apple's iPhone.
Transmedia's Glide Mobile is a Web-based Ajax and HTML application that can be accessed through the iPhone's Safari browser. Users with a Glide Mobile account can create, access, and edit Microsoft Word or Open Office documents on their iPhones. Documents created on the iPhone can also be converted to PDF files. The application is free and comes with 2 Gbytes of storage.
