HP Talks Up Jabber IM Framework

Hewlett-Packard appears to be a big fan of Jabber. Already a customer of Jabber's enterprise instant-messaging framework, HP this week agreed to begin reselling a version of the software that the two companies have co-developed for the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers, as well as the HP-UX platform. HP also will begin selling Jabber to customers of its Linux-based platform within the next month.

HP also will offer service to businesses looking to deploy a customized implementation of Jabber, which not only serves as a foundation for instant messaging, but also for embedding presence awareness--the ability to detect others' online status--in applications running on a corporate network.

Jabber recently announced it had installed more than 3 million licenses of its software to corporate customers and service providers.
