Brief: Symantec Sues Microsoft Over Technology In Vista

It wants distribution of the operating system blocked until it's removed.

Symantec and Microsoft have become sharper rivals as Microsoft builds more security functions into its products. The tension roiled into a lawsuit last week, with Symantec charging that Microsoft wrongly includes Symantec technology in Windows Vista. It asked a federal court to block Vista distribution next year unless the technology is removed. The dispute centers on software to let an operating system store and manipulate large amounts of data and re-create files after a disk failure. Microsoft says it complies with a contract signed with Veritas, which Symantec acquired. Symantec disagrees, saying Microsoft violates it by developing competing products.
