Apperian Introduces EASE For Mobile App Developers

Apple aficionados at IT enterprises seeking a way to introduce their iPhones and iPads to their networks may find the answer in a new Apperian platform.

Founded by a former chief of Apple’s enterprise services team, Chuck Goldman, the platform, announced last week, lets developers build and manage apps for the Apple devices as well as for other mobile devices. Apperian’s Enterprise App Service Environment (EASE) is available immediately for Apple iOS developers who can use EASE for free, the company said.

The "do-it-yourself" approach allows IT staff to manage their own in-house app development and distribution in a familiar interface. The EASE effort supports the Apple iPad running iOS 4 or later.

"EASE provides a serious solution to the mobile application management issues that are beginning to be recognized in organizations," said David Patrick, Apperian CEO, in a statement. "As the number of 'bring your own' and corporate-issued smartphones increases, EASE is the first solution of its kind to provide a SaaS-based approach that can be up and running in minutes."

The cloud-based offering provides a framework that extends Apple's SDK to include support for authorization, authentication, version checking, push notification and access to corporate back-end data. An app catalog features a user interface that can be download and update apps.

Apperian has developed several Apple apps that are available to Apple online users. Goldman, the company founder, began the company because he was convinced the iPhone would gradually work its useful way into IT enterprises. In recent months, the iPad has proven to be even more attractive to enterprise users than the iPhone. Apperian said it planned to offer an Android version of EASE early next year.
