SAP And Siemens Team Up For Health-Care Systems

A package of products and services will combine Siemens' clinical-systems expertise and SAP's business and supply-chain applications.

SAP and Siemens AG are teaming up to offer integrated health-care technology and consulting services that aim to combine the expertise of both companies. The new joint offering of product and consulting services is aimed at improving patient safety, process workflow, and business transparency at health-care organizations.

The Siemens Soarian and SAP Healthcare package unite Siemens' forte in clinical workflow and processes redesign as well as clinical monitoring and treatment equipment, such as advanced imaging systems, with SAP's expertise in enterprise-resource-planning and patient-administration systems implementations, an SAP spokeswoman says.

The offerings, which will be available by year's end, build on a 10-year-old relationship between the two companies. Siemens will be the exclusive distributor of the package in the United States. Both companies plan to provide health-care industry best practices, including Siemens' clinical-systems expertise and SAP's business and supply-chain applications, the spokeswoman says.

The joint consulting and products package aims to help health-care providers improve productivity and process efficiency, as well as collaboration between health-care administrators and clinicians, she says.

For example, the spokeswoman says, the offering can help hospitals better coordinate patient diagnostic and therapeutic services, better manage caseloads and treatment plans, and provide tools that assist in assigning the best available personnel to cases based on worker skills.
