Blip.tv is hosting host actress and video blogger Amanda Congdon's cross-country journey that will use video blogging to promote "green" issues.

The site, which hosts and distributes Web-based TV shows and video blogs, or vlogs, announced this week that the former Rocketboom video blog star will drive a hybrid vehicle from New York to Los Angeles for five weeks, interviewing politicians and environmentalists along the way. Visitors can watch videos, comment on Congdon's blogs and offer suggestions for the trip.

The Natural Resources Defense Council, Environmental Countdown and Ford are sponsoring the trip.

"We have a strong appreciation for her groundbreaking work and are impressed by her innovative use of our technology," blip.tv Chief Operating Officer Dina Kaplan said through a prepared statement, adding that she believes Congdon is the biggest star in the vlogosphere.

Congdon's rise to Web celebrity as the host of the cutting-edge Rocketboom vlog was followed by a messy departure. Congdon and Rocketboom founder Andrew Baron hurled charges back and forth as to whether she was fired or had quit. The hubbub led to a round of intense media coverage for Congdon as well as speculation as to what her next gig would be.
