Return Of The IPO

Last week, networking-hardware vendor Netgear Inc. floated an initial public offering, joining a small number of tech businesses that have gone public in the wake of the dot-com collapse. Netgear's stock, which trades on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol NTGR, climbed 26% in its first day of trading, from an offer price of $14 to a close of $17.69.

Of only 18 IPOs this year, eight came out in the last month, and at least half of those were tech vendors. Among them, virtual network provider iPass Inc. debuted at $14 on July 23 and is trading around $18.
