Red-M Gets Funds To Develop Wireless Tools

Red-M to use Intel investment to push development of Bluetooth-enabled networks and hardware devices.

British firm Red-M Ltd. has received funding from Intel Capital, the investment division of chipmaking giant Intel, for the development of Bluetooth-enabled networks and hardware devices, as well as a Genos wireless management system that lets administrators and IT managers control wireless access to multiple devices. The amount of the investment wasn't disclosed, but Red-M CEO Michael Wilson says it is "significant."

Red-M and Intel plan to develop the Genos software platform to support Red-M's Bluetooth devices as well as Intel's 802.11 wireless LAN systems. The Bluetooth standard is a short-range wireless transmission protocol with a low data rate. The 802.11 system is longer range and has a higher data rate. The companies also will collaborate on creating notebook and PDA devices that use Intel technology and support both the Bluetooth and 802.11 systems.

Wilson says Intel's investment will be used to accelerate Red-M's wireless networking strategy.
