PeopleSoft Hires President, Chief Operating Officer

PeopleSoft Inc. filled the gap in its management structure today by hiring a Silicon Valley veteran to be its president and chief operating officer.

The struggling enterprise application vendor tapped Craig Conway, the former chief of interactive broadcast network vendor OneTouch Systems Inc., to take control of its daily operations. PeopleSoft founder and CEO David Duffield had indicated earlier this spring that he was searching for a new president to handle operations, replacing in function Aneel Bhusri, who stepped down from his post as senior VP of product strategy to take an advisory role as vice chairman.

Conway will oversee all PeopleSoft operations, including sales, marketing, services, support, development, finance, and administration. The executive will take over those functions during one of the most difficult periods in PeopleSoft's history, which has seen its traditionally high growth rates level off in recent quarters, resulting in layoffs.

Before his stint at OneTouch, the 44-year-old Conway was president and executive of TGV Software Inc., a developer of IP protocols and applications for the Internet. He also had eight years at Oracle, where he was an executive VP in marketing, sales, and operations.
