PDA Sales On Track To Double 1999 Totals
Sales of personal digital assistants should double the total sold last year, according to market-tracking firm NPD Group. The group charted retail, mail-order, and corporate-reseller channels for January through June and found unit sales to be about 1.3 million in the United States--the same number for all PDA units sold last year.
According to its report, June unit sales of PDAs were up 190% vs. the same month last year. Total dollar sales of PDAs in the first half of this year approached $406.9 million; the figure for all of 1999 was $436.5 million. The study also found that the average price of a PDA dropped from $350 in June 1999 to $324 last June.
