PalmSource Sale Cleared By Federal Agency

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has decided to take no action to prevent the acquisition of PalmSource by a Japanese software vendor.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has cleared the sale of Palm OS developer PalmSource to Japanese software vendor Access Co. LTD, the Reuters news service has reported Thursday.

The acquisition was announced on September 9 and the companies had said they expected the deal to close by the end of the year. According to Reuters, the FTC examined the acquisition and took no action.

PalmSource had reported several financially troubling quarters and saw shipments of mobile devices based on the venerable Palm OS decline. Access is the developer of software for mobile devices including the NetFront mobile Web browser.
