Novell Tests Wireless GroupWise Service; Intros ZenWorks Bundles

Novell today revealed the beta availability of wireless access to its GroupWise platform through AT&T's PocketNet service.

GroupWise will offer various Net services software, including messaging, calendaring, and workflow, through the PocketNet Service. Novell is demonstrating the beta messaging software at this week's BrainShare 2000 user conference.

"We will help accelerate E-business by giving customers immediate access to people and information--anytime, anywhere. Businesses can now meet the needs of their customers at Internet speed," says Dave Shirk, senior VP of product management for Novell.

The foundation for GroupWise Internet access is the GroupWise Web client, Web Access. Based on Internet standards, WebAccess helps to extend the functionality of GroupWise across all types of networks and operating systems. Once logged into GroupWise, WebAccess users can view and manage item types such as messages, appointments, tasks, and notes.

Users of GroupWise 5.5 Enhancement Pack can get wireless access to GroupWise through AT&T PocketNet service by visiting http://www.support.novell.com/beta/public and downloading the free public beta after April 3.

In another of a series of product announcements, Novell disclosed plans to offer three ZENworks product bundles within the next 30 days. ZENworks provides end-to-end management for user desktops and applications, servers, and network devices.

The company will offer ZENworks for Desktops and NetWare 5.1 for a single server and a five-user configuration priced at $760. Additional single-user licenses are available starting at $92. Novell also announced ZENworks for Servers and ZENworks for Desktops and ManageWise 2.7, for $110 per user.

According to Jason Werner, product marketing manager for Novell, the bundling is part of the company's strategy to move toward its new Denim architecture, and Novell is offering the product bundles as part of its Net Management Services strategy.
