Novell started shipping software that simplifies end users' and IT departments' administration of passwords for different applications.
Novell Single Sign-On 1.0 runs on a NetWare 5 server and stores end users' passwords for applications from Attachmate, Entrust Technologies, Lotus Development, PeopleSoft Inc., and Wall Data. When combined with Novell Directory Services' ability to store passwords for multiple operating systems, Single Sign-On provides users with a single point of authentication for a variety of messaging, ERP, and host-emulation applications running on Windows NT, NetWare, Solaris, and other platforms, Novell officials say.
Providing users with a single point of authentication increases productivity and can significantly reduce help- desk calls. For example, 70% of help-desk calls related to password reset are a direct result of users forgetting their passwords, according to the Network Applications Consortium.
Novell Single Sign-On 1.0 is available immediately and costs $26 per user.
