Hoping to see United Messaging Inc. expand globally, the company's directors earlier this week promoted chief operating officer Bob Jones to the CEO post for the E-mail and messaging application service provider. Jones had been chief operating officer since March.
"We are playing to the strength of our leadership. My new role will be to scale the business," Jones says. "We are on a fast pace to be the leader of outsourced messaging."
United Messaging sells E-mail and messaging services for large businesses in the United States and the United Kingdom. Jones plans to expand into the Pacific Rim and Latin America next year.
Founder Stephen Layne will step down as CEO but remain chairman, Jones says. Jones has 20 years' experience in electronic messaging, first at ITT World Communications, then at AT&T, where he launched AT&T's business-to-business Web-hosting and E-commerce services.
