According to an internal memo, Verizon has resumed rolling out the Android 2.1 update to users of the Motorola Droid. Don't go scrambling for your device quite yet, however.The internal memo leaked by Verizon Wireless employees notes that Verizon is rolling out the Android 2.1 update starting today in phases.

About 1,000 users will be updated at Noon today, with another 9,000 following at Midnight. Once those two updates are sent successfully, the update pool will widen considerably. Starting at Midnight on the 31st, updates will be offered to 200,000 users. The updates will then arrive once every 24 hours (at Midnight) to 200,000 users at a time until all users have been updated.

Some of the new features include support for Yahoo Mail, pinch-to-zoom, speech-to-text, Google Goggles, and a new gallery application.

Now, Verizon Wireless has already pulled the plug on updating the Droid to Android 2.1 twice already. It will take several days for the update to roll out to every user. Be patient. There doesn't appear to be a way to force your handset to update. So sit tight and wait it out. It won't be long now.
