UMTS Moto Q Next Week with WinMo6?

A bit of analysis over on Unstrung is talking up the probability that Motorola will announce a UMTS version of its semi-popular Q smartphone. I say don't bother unless it comes with Windows Mobile 6.

A bit of analysis over on Unstrung is talking up the probability that Motorola will announce a UMTS version of its semi-popular Q smartphone. I say don't bother unless it comes with Windows Mobile 6.True. Motorola badly needs to fill a hole in its GSM-based smartphone line-up, and a Q boasting an EDGE or UMTS radio would be the obvious direction for Moto to take. But with Windows Mobile 6 around the corner (also probably being announced next week), it seems pointless to release the device unless it also comes with the new and improved software.

The powers that be at Microsoft have promised that WinMo6 will deliver significant improvements to the UI over WinMo5, and, much as I hate to say it, the Q can definitely benefit from them. A preview of WinMo6 that I saw on a number of different form factors showed some great tweaks and updates to the basic, everyday usability of the UI. Given the improvements (that I am not allowed to speak about, but you can read here), I'd say the Q is a prime candidate for the new Windows Mobile OS.

Let's hope Moto does the right thing and makes it a part of any future Q phones they release.
