Sprint Touts Mobile Phones As Way To Cut Costs

Sprint recently conducted a survey of U.S. consumers about the value represented by mobile phones. Some of the ways people are cutting costs in response to the current economic climate include killing their landlines, switching to mobile family plans, and defecting to find the best savings.

Sprint recently conducted a survey of U.S. consumers about the value represented by mobile phones. Some of the ways people are cutting costs in response to the current economic climate include killing their landlines, switching to mobile family plans, and defecting to find the best savings. There's no question that the wise are pinching pennies, considering how the economy has shaped up the last few months. One way to make sure your budget remains balanced is to re-examine your current costs and cut or trim where possible. Sprint checked in with the public on how they're doing just that.

Of those it polled, 72% cut household spending, 22% said household spending remained flat, while just 6% said they increased spending. What's telling is that 83% of respondents own a mobile phone, and 56% of them said that they were inseparable from their mobile phones.

When it comes to using mobile phones as landline replacements, the numbers are revealing. About three-quarters of respondents said they would consider cutting their landlines to save money, with 36% saying their mobile phone is the only phone they need.

The survey goes on to detail more information about using family plans and data plans to save money. Businesses would do well to take some of these ideas into consideration. How many of your employees have both desk phones and mobile phones? Are you paying for both? How often is the desk phone used versus the mobile phone? Perhaps it is time to re-evaluate how your business manages its telephony expenses and find if there are ways in which your organization, too, can use mobile phones to reduce expenditures.
