Make Your Own iPhone From Paper Or Sand

Like to have an iPhone of your own, but think they're too expensive? You can wait until the price comes down. (We'll call this the "less desirable" or "not crazy") option. Or you can do as these hobbyists have done and make your own, from paper or from sand.

Like to have an iPhone of your own, but think they're too expensive? You can wait until the price comes down. (We'll call this the "less desirable" or "not crazy") option. Or you can do as these hobbyists have done and make your own, from paper or from sand.

The author of the blog paper art gadgets shows in this 30-second video how he made a miniature iPhone out of folded paper.

The video shows how he made the pattern on his computer, printed it out on paper, cut it out, and folded it, touching the model up with white paint and spray gloss. He made a miniature reproduction of the iPhone itself, its cradle, and the striking iPhone box and black envelope containing documentation.

iPhone made of sand

And this North Carolina beachgoer made an iPhone out of "pre-silicon" - sand. The creator, Chris, told Boing Boing: "The sand iPhone attracted quite a crowd, although none were willing to buy it at my asking price ($599 plus service, of course)."

Earlier we described how crazy dedicated hobbyists knit an iPhone, sewed a Nintendo, and knit a full-sized Ferrari sports car.
