HP's Latest Android, Windows Tablets

Four Android and two Windows tablets will add to HP's holiday season device lineup.

HP has announced six new tablets -- four Android and two Windows devices -- to go on sale in November. The Android devices range in size from seven to 10 inches and come with Tegra 4 processors and 4G connectivity. The Windows tablets range from 10- to 13-inch screens.

The Slate 8 Pro, one of four new Android tablets, is the first 8-inch tablet that HP has produced. Its 7.98" screen and 4:3 aspect ratio make it similar in size to the iPad Mini, but its 1600-by-1200-pixel screen resolution is an improvement. It has a Tegra 4 processor and 8-megapixel camera, with a 2-megapixel camera in front. It also has a microSD card slot, microUSB port and microHDMI port.

Both the Slate 7 HD and Slate 10 HD have 1280-by-800-pixel IPS screens and nine-hour battery life. Each will also feature a dual-core processor, optional 4G connectivity and Beats Audio. HP noted that the Slate 7 HD will not replace the Slate 7, so the new model is expected to be pricier.

The Slate 7 Extreme, HP's third 7-inch tablet, is a more sophisticated version of the Slate 7. It comes with a Tegra 4 processor and the gaming credentials of a Tegra device. The Slate 7 Extreme has a 1280-by-800-pixel screen and a holder to accommodate its capacitive touch stylus. Although it lacks the digitizing technology of Samsung's S Pen, the stylus has an extra-fine tip that lends itself to writing and drawing.

HP announced two new Windows tablets. The Pavilion X2 will feature the Celeron or Pentium versions of Intel's Bay Trail series. It will be available with an 11-inch or 13-inch 1366-by-768-pixel IPS screen. The Pavilion X2 supports up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of flash storage, and will be available in three colors. Its $599 starting price includes a keyboard dock that has a built-in second battery.

The second Windows device, the Omni 10 slate, will have Intel's new Bay Trail processors. It is among the first low-power tablets with a 1920-by-1080-pixel display. The Omni 10 will feature 64 GB of storage, and 2 GB of RAM and run Windows 8.1.

With the exception of the Pavilion X2, HP has not yet announced pricing for any of the new tablets.
