re: Android 4.0 Upgrade: Coming Soon To Your Phone?
ICS rollout to Android phones will definitely have a great impact in what manufacturer my next phone will come from. I am with Google that manufacturers should be supporting their phones with Android updates for 18 months after the phone is released. Ideally for me, it would be 24 months after the last phone of that model is sold because that last person will be stuck with it for potentially 2 years on their contract but hey, I'll take the 18 months as a start.
Having purchased the Droid 3 that came out mid-2011, I fully EXPECT it to be updated to ICS. If it doesn't blogs all over should be calling out what new devices are not getting ICS and make a huge issue out of it. It needs to be addressed. I can guarantee you that one way or the other my Droid 3 will be getting ICS. Its just whether it will be an official rom or unofficial like CM. The hardware is more than able to run it. Actually, Motorola might be doing me a favor by not releasing it for the Droid 3. It will force me to root, go 3rd party rom and GET RID OF THE BLOAT and will guarantee that my next phone will be nothing other than a Nexus device that always gets updated and updated first :)
