This tech ,and the app, existed for years.
I'm constantly amazed at how things that existed logn before Uber was founded are being sold to us as something that Uber "invented". The driver tracking tech existed for many years. Please google it and see how many companies are offering it (inc. the apps) for taxi, truck, limo fleets and drivers. Even the car-hailing app pre-dated Uber's app. For example, TaxiMagic existed since 2006 while Uber was only founded in 2008. There were even earlier smartphone apps for limo and cab drivers. People who are not familiar with transportation industry, its laws, its regulations, its already existing technology are being sold big pile of nonsense. Selling it pays for Uber because this nonsense allows Uber to sidesteps laws and regulations thousands (and millions) worldwide operate by in this industry on a daily basis. All I can say is I'm amazed at how naive (or complicit) our media is ignoring all these facts and presenting old technologies as some kind of pseudo "innovation".
