Micron is getting ready to roll out two new solid-state drives (SSDs) aimed at the notebook and server markets. The RealSSD C200, for notebooks, is based on multilevel cell technology that lets drive makers build larger capacity drives at lower cost. A 2.5-inch form factor version, suitable for traditional laptops, ranges in capacity up to 256 GB, while a 1.8-inch version, suitable for ultraportables, can store up to 128 GB of data. The SSD will also sport a high-speed, 3-Gbps Serial ATA interface, which is faster than Parallel ATA SSDs.
The RealSSD P200, for enterprise servers, is more than 10 times faster at accessing transactional data when compared to a typical enterprise hard drive, according to Micron. It ranges in capacity from 16 GB to 128 GB, and comes in a standard 2.5-inch form factor.
