Lenovo Unveils Ultrathin Laptops

Computerworld

Lenovo is out to challenge Apple with an ultrathin notebook of its own, the ThinkPad X300.The new laptop weighs 2.9 pounds, measures three-quarters of an inch thick -- comparable to the thickest part of the MacBook Air -- and sports a 13-inch display. But with a price tag of $2,799, analysts say Lenovo is aiming the ThinkPad X300 at mobile business executives, not consumers, like Apple's offering.

"Anyone buying the ThinkPad is doing it because they really want to do some work with it," analyst Rob Enderle told Computerworld. "This is the product you give your very top people. It's not going to be for everybody because of its price." The ThinkPad X300, available now, also includes replaceable batteries and a replaceable optical drive, has three USB ports (compared to the MacBook Air's one) and a VGA port that can be used to hook it up to a monitor.Computerworld
