What do you know! Just after bMighty puts out a slideshow of 8 Ultraportable Laptops For Growing Businesses, two of the featured manufacturers roll out new models -- both at or near the coveted 3 lb. mark.First up, the scuffle between Lenovo and Apple to produce the sleekest, slickest business laptop continues with the announcement of the Lenovo ThinkPad X301. Apple has the edge in design, but Lenovo looks to be leading on the feature set. The new model is the successor the previous MacBook Air competitor the ThinkPad X300.

The weight, screen size, and price side-by-side:

The X300

  • Weight: 3.1 lbs.

  • Screen size: 13"

  • Priced from: $2,268

The X301

  • Weight: 3.0 lbs.

  • Screen size: 13.3"

  • Priced from: $2,599

Meanwhile, Levno is not alone in rolling out new product. HP unveiled the EliteBook line of laptops. Rather than the latest in an established model line (like the X301), the EliteBook announcement is a new product line of 3-poundish models aimed squarely at the mobile business market.

The EliteBook 2530 introduces a formidable competitor to the ruggedized market that should have Panasonic's ToughBook team watching closely. There's also a tablet model (the 2730). But the real attention getter on these models is the pricing, starting at $1,499 for the 2530p.
