Last week, I posted about how Acer's purchase of Gateway might affect small and midsize business PC buyers.

Today, I got a press release announcing that Gateway is selling off its Professional business segment to MPC Corporation. The $90 million deal for the $900 million unit will allow Gateway to focus on its consumer brand, the company said.

While the deal may make system-builder MPC a more attractive choice for its target market of "education, medium-sized business, and government buyers," small and midsize businesses now have little choice but to look beyond Gateway for their PC purchases.
