Did Walt Mossberg Just Confirm The New iPhone Is Going To Be Announced Next Week?

Most of the tech world's heavy-weights have offered their opinion on the Palm Pre. That includes the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg. In one instance, however, he refers directly to the "new iPhone to be introduced next week." Um, oops?

Most of the tech world's heavy-weights have offered their opinion on the Palm Pre. That includes the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg. In one instance, however, he refers directly to the "new iPhone to be introduced next week." Um, oops? Here's the full quote from Walt Mossberg:

"I'd note that the new iPhone to be unveiled next week will have lots of added features that could alter those calculations."

PCMagazine's Sascha Segan firmly believes the wording indicates that Mossberg knows something that the rest of us are only guessing at.

Segan writes, "Mossberg obviously has the next iPhone and can't talk about it. Read between the lines: he's straining to compare the Pre to the un-announced iPhone on his desk. He wants to do it so badly. But he can't, because that would steal Apple's thunder."

Apple's World Wide Developer Conference kicks off next week, with the keynote scheduled for 10 AM PST on Monday, June 8. Segan, Mossberg and others fully expect Apple to make an important announcement. I am leaning in the same direction, but you never know.

Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster thinks that investors are going to be disappointed in what they see next week.

At this point, only time will tell.
