Apptix Intros Hosted Exchange Service for Apple's iPhone 3G

InformationWeek, TMCnet

This morning brought with it Apple's iPhone 3G; this afternoon, Apptix is targeting SMBs with a hosted Microsoft Exchange 2007 service via ActiveSync for the new phone.ActiveSync, Microsoft's synchronization software for mobile devices, gives iPhone users instant, mobile access to their Outlook email, calendars and contacts through a 128-bit encrypted SSL connection. The monthly subscription service represents a viable option for small companies that can't afford or don't have the expertise to have the messaging and collaboration solution in-house. "Hosted iPhone Exchange services would enable them to gain the advantages, usually reserved for larger firms, of the new iPhone's ActiveSync support," according to Apptix's director of engineering.

To subscribe, users must have an active subscription to the Apptix hosted Exchange service plan with the ActiveSync option. The service will also work with original iPhones upgraded with 2.0 software, as well as other ActiveSync-ready smartphones.InformationWeek, TMCnet
