According to shipping documents from Rogers Wireless up in Canada, it appears as though Apple may be fading out the iPhone 3G in favor of a simplified iPhone 3GS line-up, containing the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models.Well, this is interesting. A number of tipsters had been sending information to The Boy Genius Report, which now claims to have confirmed at least some of the reports.

Rogers Wireless is transitioning its iPhone supply. It is phasing out the iPhone 3G 8GB model in favor of going all iPhone 3GS. What's notable is that Apple has not announced the iPhone 3GS with an 8GB capacity.

The documents scanned by Rogers employees note that they should continue to sell the iPhone 3G 8GB model until supplies run out. Only then should sales of the iPhone 3GS 8GB move forward.

Word on the 'Net is that Apple plans some sort of announcement for early September. Perhaps it will shed more light on the situation then.

From my perspective, I was sort of surprised that Apple was keeping hte iPhone 3G around at all. I wouldn't put it past Apple to have this phase-out of the iPhone 3G planned from the beginning.
