Microsoft joined other big names in the IT industry Thursday to pledge $3.5 towards the relief work in Southeast Asia assisting victims of Sunday's earthquake and tsunami.
Like several other major technology companies, including Cisco and Computer Associates, Microsoft is making both a corporate donation and matching the money given by its employees to relief organizations.
Its corporate contribution will be $2 million, said chief executive officer Steve Ballmer in a statement, while he projected that worker and company matching funds would amount to about $1.5 million.
"Our people all around the world want to help," Ballmer said in the statement. "If our employees contribute more than we are projecting, then our corporate donation would go up as well."
