re: Innovation Begs For A Crock-Pot, Not Blender
Very nice post..well-written and succinct.
I agree that disruptive ideas often just take time, because
they are either hard to grasp or not yet ready for prime timeG«™ but ideation is
the first and foremost step for any successful business and what is needed for a successful business is a Crock-Pot, a slow cooker that can cook ideas slowly especially when you are thinking of leveraging technology for social and environmental benefits. Like many innovative businesses, Attero also started off with a flash of an idea and it has now changed e-waste is being handled in India. The idea was to develop an eco-friendly way to recycle e-waste and extract valuable resources for reuse. The journey started with just a Power Point presentation and has now spawned disruptive technology for
environmentally responsible e-waste management.

From a nascent idea to developing a viable disruptive technology and making it reality, Attero has now grown to become IndiaG«÷s largest electronic asset management company, offering customized end to end solutions for e-waste management, electronics asset recovery and data security.

I believe that to innovate an idea, it needn't necessarily be put through the blender - the result may come faster but it might not necessarily be tasty! Sometimes, itG«÷s slow cooking that does the work!

So a pressure cooker, not a crock pot

Well, I think so. I didn't consciously copy it from anyone but you never know about the unconscious. If someone came up with it earlier I'll gladly credit them.

To RobPreston's point, and at the risk of introducing another metaphor, the mentality at too many companies is to innovate by cooking up new or different ideas in the microwave. The results come out faster, but not necessarily better tasting.

re: Innovation Begs For A Crock-Pot, Not Blender
It's indeed a great metaphor, the crock pot, but public companies under pressure to show results within a quarter or two often don't have the patience or confidence to let innovative ideas simmer. Those companies quickly move on to the next, shorter-term thing. It's an unfortunate state of affairs.

Great metaphor, the crock pot. Is that original with you?
