As an older, disabled person, i do much of my shopping online. Using pay pal mean my confidential info is being known to only them as they make the payment for the purchase. Plus the convenience of not having to check if there is a security icon somewhere and the seller;s site and having to type in that humongous long number we have on our plastic money.Linda Joy Adams

I think the big hurdles to widespread acceptance of these technologies has to do with compliance (PCI, KYC), risk management and infrastructure cost. Until you can prove that effectively turning a mobile phone (or other device) into the equivalent of a payment card is safe, it won't gain widespread adoption.

And from the sound of it, it looks like eBay may be trying to go head to head with Amazon regarding its mobile technology regarding the kiosk idea - but from the sound of the in-store app, I'm not sure that retailers are really going to buy into that with the idea being that the longer that a shopper is in their retail location, the more likely they are to increase their purchases as opposed to being very tightly directed to where there interests may lie.

I am really excited for this to actually move out of development and into the wild. I have downloaded the PayPal app, Dwolla, and Square... but I have nowhere to use the technology! I now have the PayPal Here app and it works well. But, it's silly that I can pay for eBay items, accept credit card payments for my business, and transfer funds to/from bank accounts all from my phone, but God forbid I pay for dinner with the same device.

Come on people... let's get smart about this and get moving. The technology is there and has been there for years. What we need now are merchants getting into the mix and getting behind a provider. Let's make a selection of the standards and start spending/receiving money electronically.

I would flip to mobile payments in a heartbeat if it was easy and practical. I'd even trade in my dashing vintage BlackBerry Curve to do so. OK, so i'd trade that in for a pack of gum. But I'm still bullish on mobile payments, and impatient for mainstream use.
