A start
The Apple fitness apps are complex and not intuitive the way most of their products are. There is room for a lot of data but im not sure much of it is useful. But it is a start.

Health application
I use health application everyday to record the engergy I consumed. It may not be accurate but at least give some kind of reference.

Garmin Vivoactive
I would add the Garmin Vivoactive to this list which does everthing that the other Garmin devices do and adds GPS capabilites for running cycling walking etc etc.  It also has a battery life of up to 3 weeks.   Works well with my Android phone to synch activities and load apps
