Collaboration is key
Just wanted to add...

More and More I'm seeing companies adopt and more collaborative layout in there office buildings, doing away with cubicles with high wall dividers in favor or a more shared space approach.

At my recent engagement they client is doing just that: doing away with conventional layouts. One of the reasons they stated was that conventional layouts provide little to no flexiblity when having to move/consolidate teams around, aside from being able to onboard more resource. It's amazing how by redesigin the layout they are able to free up space and yet have everyone still feel confortable.

By adoptiong white noise technology it also helps to keep collaboration without bothering your neighbor :)

The IT Chop Shop
Excellent article!!! Very insightful!

I think what Ford's CIO is doing is just phenomenal, it's very innovative to the point that I think that other companies might emulate in one way or form.

Having an office dedicated to Technology as a strategic business driver is something that definitly leads to succes. Centralizing IT isn't new, but the approach that Ford is leading is, and the fact that it's being implemented towards automobile manufacturing is another stapple on the importance of adopting technology to drive business decisions.
