Re: Ugh
It'll be temporary until everyone buys a fancy new converter gizmo! I still can't believe people listen to music without headphones in public. I don't even like to listen to music without headphones in my own office at work lest I disturb the office next to mine.

Re: Ugh
@tzubair – The next era would probably be the in-ear stereo wireless ear buds that are barely visible when worn. No hassle of having messy wires all over.

Re: Seems like a bad idea
@ tzubair – Sa you said most of us will eventually get used to the idea, and I am sure they will have some feature on these earphones compared to what we have now.

Re: Ugh
"Hope it's not true.  I already have to deal with jerks blaring their music off of their phones on the subway without using headphones.  We don't need more of them."

@Joe: Ha! I know how that feels. I don't think anyone is going to play music without the headphones or the earphones. In case you can't get your hands on the new ones with the lightening port, there's always a converter available for that.

Re: Seems like a bad idea
I think it's not a bad idea, you could probably send over Hi-res audio via the new port. Conventional 3.5mm audio port cannot take the depth of Hi-res audio hence manufacturers didn't have a way of bringing this studio quality to your ears.

Re: Seems like a bad idea
"This seems like a bad idea but the multipurpose lighting connector is an appealing concept. Buying more iPhone-only gear for the latest version isn't appealing at all, however."

@Michelle: I think that's what everyone complains at the start but eventually they get used to it. Plus it's not just a fancy change Apple is bringing about for the heck of it. If the idea is to reduce the width and the Audio Jack was hampering it, then it makes sense. I think in the long run people will get used to it.
