Re: Googlehoo
That's funny because what millennial or Gen Z'er (or whatever they're called) uses Yahoo anything, app or otherwise? They've tried to rebrand themselves and make themselves cool, in a pop culture sense and in a Valley sense. But I wonder if they've succeeded in either sense.

@vnewman2: In that case, I wonder when we'll get "Yahoo Wave" and "Yahoo Plus."  ;)

I'm not an app fan but apps seem to be the direction the whole industry is going in.  Perhaps Millennials prefer them...

And yes, Yahoo is all about the acqui-hires.

Re: Googlehoo
I had heard the reason for all the acquisition was simply to get that talent in-house, so maybe it was worth it.

That would make the most sense since everyone questioned the value of buying a company that had never shown a profit.

Re: Googlehoo
@soozyg - I hated that "conversation grouping" feature as well, and if I remember correctly, Google did it first, so I presume Yahoo stole it thinking Google knows what's best.  Awful idea.

Re: Googlehoo
Was that planned slow-going? Or was it a failure to quickly integrate this high-profile acquisition? I had heard the reason for all the acquisition was simply to get that talent in-house, so maybe it was worth it. Another Yahoo strategy. Apps. I'd like to know how big a failure that's been too. They have an app for everything and I personally dislike it. I can't see anyone liking it. Too many apps!

The Tumblr integration is slow-going, with most of the progress coming this year.  The recent YHOO earnings call indicated that Tumblr has finally been integrated into the company's Flurry developer API.

I think she was a high-profile choice for CEO when she came in and for a while literally everything she did caught tons of media attention, regardless of what it was.

Re: Googlehoo
That was the part of Mayer's strategy that got the most press. But another major part of the strategy was to go on a major acquistions spree --- the purchase of Tumblr being one of the bigger ones. How are those going?
