Worth the upgrade?

I have the 2.0 version of Nest, but not sure it is worth the upgrade to 3.0 with these new feature.

Very cool to keep hearing about what Nest is up to. I think the company has potential in other home-based devices, I wouldn't be surprised if someday people are using super efficient Nest dishwahsers. How about an efficient Nest refridgerator?

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Has reliability been addressed?

The big problem with these has been the reliability. Have they replaced the FETs with a relay? I doubt it if the profile is smaller. You don't want your thermostat dying when it's -40 out and you're away from home. (And, hopefully Nest has learned not to push software updates mid-winter! Most of the world isn't the Bay Area weather-wise.)

Also, regarding energy savings, I don't think they are comparing it to even the most basic programable thermostat out there, which I'd guess would get you to like 80% to 90% of what the Nest can accomplish over a basic el-cheapo thermostat with one setting and a big over-shoot, etc.

NEST is one of those IoT products I have lot of hopes from. Its user friendly, it has universal practical value, it fulfills its promise, has stood the test of time. With farsight its now even better.

It can also act as a room hub for other in-room IoT devices.

It was a very smart acquistion by Google.
