Re: Velostrata Hybrid Offers Public Cloud Compute, On-Premises Data
At the risk of sounding antiquated, a big part of me is still scared of having data in the cloud, and I know there are many in my customer base that feel the same way.

Re: Velostrata Hybrid Offers Public Cloud Compute, On-Premises Data
Mr. Pillar mentions how 'low risk' Velostrata's approach is. We have a huge segment of people who are still scared of the cloud - now, the merit of that position notwithstanding, that's a lot of potential customers for Velostrata. People will take a look at it just based on principle. Word of mouth will help it stand out from lots of other startups offering more traditional approaches. That's a sound marketing strategy in and of itself. However Velostrata's business model turns out, there will be a lesson in it about playing to a niche.

Increased Overhead
@Charlie: If the model comprises of the data being locally stored and the processing being outsourced, doesn't it lead to a lot of overhead in the form of data transfer over the network. The to and fro movement of data from local to cloud will increase grealy. The processing speed will also come down because of this and it may slow down the processing. What do you think?

Velostrata and unicorns

This company may deliver the goods. It's got an experienced management team. But its announcement press release did not. I wanted some explanation of how it does what it claims to do and didn't find it. Nor have I seen anyone convincingly explain it. Ben Kepes, the prolific New Zealander, at Diversity Ltd., used the headline: "Velostrata delivers unicorns. And rainbows. And application portability."
